Speakeasy bars and nightclubs operated illegally during Prohibition days in the United States but thankfully today they are not illegal and can be found at some popular all-inclusive resorts if you know where to look and know the correct password for the day. The term “speakeasy” comes from the idea of speaking quietly to avoid attention, especially since they were often located in hidden inconspicuous places behind legitimate businesses or within homes.

Sandals Ochi Beach Club, Jamaica – The Rabbit Hole is carefully hidden away and guest are encouraged to find out the password of the day to enter the hidden door, easily spotted during the day but in the evening when shadows shift it is easy to pass it by if you do not know what you are looking for. This bar has two levels- on the ground floor a beautiful bar, lounge area where any entertainment scheduled is situated – I prefer upstairs – best for people watching from more tables and chairs (Inside Tip -If you hear Big Mama is singing-don’t miss her) The Rabbit Hole is included in your all-inclusive guest experience here at Sandals Ochi Beach Club.
Secrets Moxche/Impression Moxche by Secrets – Playa del Carmen, MX- hidden somewhere in the pharmacy -you will find The Gypsy Club – at first glance you will never see it , but if you know the password magic walls will move and inside you will find a beautiful afterhours nightclub – the night I went the password was “ibuprofen” so be sure to ask the resort entertainment staff you encounter during the day or the staff in the theatre for the password as it changes daily.
Moon Palace The Grand Cancun – The Library where handcrafted cocktails and an air of sophisticated mystery set the tone. Guest do not need a secret password to enter this adults-only speakeasy bar, they just need to find the bookcase and enter through the hidden door.
