The Canoe House Restaurant at the Mauna Lani Bay Hotel and Bungalows is consistently ranked as one of the top dining experiences in Hawai’i. Chef de Cuisine Allen Hess brings his progressive approach to Hawai’i Regional Cuisine to The Canoe House from his namesake restaurant Allen’s Table in Waimea. Thankfully, he brought his recipe for biscuits as well, plain looking and unassuming, these little white biscuits will melt in your mouth. Chef Hess regards The Canoe House as a “Hawaiian Culinary Adventure” where he is free to incorporate the best and freshest ingredients grown on the island. Showcasing more than 80% of locally grown produce the menu is full of wonderful dishes such as Farmer’s Market Salad, so fresh it was as if they had went to the field to pick my salad greens after I placed my order, my fish was so light and flaky, cooked to perfection accompanied by fresh brocollini and mashed potatoes. For dessert I suggest the Waimea Strawberry Shortcake, so worth the extra time I had to spend at the Mauna Lani gym the next day.
Located oceanfront on the scenic Kohala Coast, The Canoe House has amazing sunsets such as the one I experienced while having dinner there during my recent return visit to Mauna Lani Bay Hotel. The open air gazebo affords beautiful views of the ocean and sunsets.
