The islands that make up the Bahamas are an easy reach from North America given that they begin a mere 50 miles off the coast of Florida. Nassau (the capital of The Bahamas) offers visitors a modern airport, lots of access to duty-free shopping, dining options off their resort, nightlife, casinos, golf and lots of tour options. USA passport holds pre-clearance with CBP immigration and customs to make their return flight home easier, especially for connecting flights.
It is here in Nassau, that you will find Sandals Royal Bahamian Resort & Offshore Island- a short drive from the airport and just minutes from downtown Nassau and world class gambling on Paradise Island. I recently had the opportunity to stay at this amazing resort and wanted to share my experience.
It is easy to see why this resort has earned the title of the Bahamas’ most elegant resort, where modern five-star luxury is blended with the elegance from a bygone era. Originating as the Balmoral Club back in the 1040’s this regal retreat has hosted such famous guests as the Duke & Duchess of Windsor and today each and every valued Sandals Resort guest is treated with the same welcoming spirit befitting royalty.
The resort has recently undergone a multimillion-dollar transformation, architecture taking inspiration from elegant Bahamian mansions and the New Island Village features standalone villas named after remote Bahamian cays, featuring pastel pinks, blues and white, shiplap wood planks and striped awnings. Elegant gardens, statuary and marble fountains add to the elegance of this resort. There are two main pools that have been refurbished, offering amazing ocean views.

The resort boasts two distinctive vacation experiences between the main resort and the exotic offshore island:
The main resort has just completed major renovations including the addition of “Coconut Grove” known for food trucks offering sweet crepes, ice-cream and coffee / savory conch snacks. The area is a hub for entertainment, including silent disco, live music and themed events.
Barefoot Cay just minutes away from the main resort by the resort’s private ferry. Guests will experience two stunning beaches one to relax on, the other offers hammocks, snorkeling and exploring. I spent the day snorkeling, time in the pool, lunch at Aralia House offshore grill, followed by a nap in a hammock – perfect day in paradise.

Sandals Royal Bahamian offers ten unique dining options (plus room service for club level and butler service categories). My husband and I enjoyed Butch’s Island Chop House (incredible chandelier), sophisticated La Plume, Tesoro, Kimonos and Gordon’s on the Pier for dinner during our stay and enjoyed other restaurants for breakfast and lunch – Gluten Free options were never an issue working with culinary concierge.
This resort has a variety of room categories from luxury to butler service suites: I had the opportunity to tour them and I am so impressed.
New Island Village features standalone villas named after remote Bahamian Cays, soft pastel colors of pink, white and blue, shiplap wood planks and striped awnings, these are tucked away in the gardens, some offer private pool sanctuaries, offering a relaxing vibe.

East Bay Beachfront Rooms and Suites have been refurbished and feature soft pink accents the Bahamas are known for.
New West Bay Swim-up Oversized Crystal Lagoon Suites are stunning – located on the ground floor of the West Bay Building
