Many clients have asked for an update on Los Cabos since being struck by Hurricane Odile on September 14th, 2014 and I am happy to report that one of my favorite destinations in the world has taken the direct hit by a category 3 hurricane in stride, and many resorts are using this as an opportunity to upgrade their facilities, landscaping projects and other services to offer to their clients.
Using the hashtag #UNSTOPPABLE on twitter and other social media, the Mexican Tourist Board has hoped to spread the word that indeed Los Cabos is welcoming guests.
** Sold-out international flights have been arriving in Los Cabos since the airport reopened on October 8th, 2014
** By early December nearly 8,500 hotel rooms were reopened and welcoming guests – other resorts will reopen when they feel they are 100 percent ready to welcome their guests back on property – popular resorts such as one of my favorites The One & Only Palmilla (which is slated to reopen on March 15,2015) are taking the opportunity to do some major renovations. Secrets Puerto Los Cabos where I had stayed just two weeks prior to the hurricane has officially reopened for business.
** Luckily, Hurricane Odile did not bring as much rain as originally predicted, so the main roads were not washed out or suffer any major damage. Main corridor roads such as the four-lane road from Cabo San Lucas to La Paz suffered no damage.
** As for San Jose, first time visitors will not really notice anything out of the ordinary other than a few smaller shops being closed, most restaurants, nightlife and dining options are open and ready for business.
