Since 1957 visitors to Waikiki Beach have enjoyed shopping and dining in the International Market Place-the center of Waikiki Beach on Kalakaua Ave.- and today the new and improved version continues to welcome visitors with lots of new shops and dining options. Visitors can learn about the original International Market Place and its cultural significance by reading the plaques found throughout the marketplace.
Although there are many great new things to explore within the market, repeat guest will be glad to know that the huge Indian Banyan Tree (planted circa 1950) continues to offer shade and grace. New to the improved Marketplace visitors will find an inviting open-air design, featuring a fire tower, a 3-story water wall and an interactive entertainment stage and a strong “Hawaiian sense of place”.
